ZRIN natural diamonds

When buying jewelry with diamonds, the most important thing to receive as proof of authenticity is an international certificate from a diamond grading institute that is recognised worldwide.

An IGI diamond certificate

ZRIN, as a diamond importer for the Croatian market, always supplies an international certificate with any item bought containing a diamond of 0.06 ct (2.30 mm) or above.

This matters a great deal, because without an international certificate (from GIA, IGI, HRD or another independent international institute for diamond testing and grading) you cannot be 100% sure you received the diamond you paid for — meaning the carat weight, the color and the clarity — and it is hard to sell should you ever decide to.

Alongside the international certificate, at ZRIN you also receive our own certificate confirming that the diamond you bought is the one set into the item you bought (a ring, a pendant, earrings or another piece of jewelry)

Every certificate carries its own unique code (report number).

At ZRIN you can also buy a certified diamond on its own, without having it set into anything.

About natural diamonds

Diamond is the hardest mineral found in nature, and so it holds the top place on the Mohs hardness scale at 10. Because of that hardness it cannot be scratched and keeps its original brilliance for good.

A diamond's main characteristics are known as the 4Cs: carat, color, clarity and cut.

Carat

What confuses many people about a diamond's carat is that it actually refers to the weight of the diamond, not to its size.

Color

The diamond color scale runs from D to Z. D denotes the whitest, that is the colorless diamond, and E and F belong in that group too. As we move towards Z, diamonds take on a faintly yellowish tint.

Clarity

A diamond's clarity denotes the presence of inclusions within the stone. The more inclusions, the poorer the clarity. The cleanest diamonds are graded IF (internally flawless). After those on the clarity scale come VVS1 and VVS2 (very very slightly included), followed by VS1 and VS2, then Si1 and Si2, I1, I2 and I3… It is worth noting that on diamonds from 0.05 ct to 0.80 ct, inclusions such as Si1 and Si2 are not visible to the naked eye. From 1 ct upwards, inclusions on a diamond of Si1 or Si2 quality could become visible to the naked eye.

Cut

What most affects a diamond's brilliance and the way it reflects light is the cut. A perfect cut with beautiful brilliance is graded IDEAL. Immediately after it comes EXCELLENT, then VERY GOOD, GOOD, FAIR, and last of all POOR, which denotes the worst cut.
